Are there any online movie theaters where I can pay to legally watch the same movies from home?

I like going to the movie theaters to watch new movies before they
come out on DVD, but sometimes I'd prefer to just sit in the comfort
of my own home and watch them. Is this possible? I know a lot of
people torrent or otherwise illegally download and watch movies
currently only available at the movie theaters, but it would seem like
a profitable endeavor to bring the movie theaters home by using the
internet. Please let me know if this has been done. If not, why hasn't
anyone done it yet? If so, please link me!
